Back Across the Yard
The snail awoke and antennae poked out of the shell so hard
He looked across the green green grass that the humans called back yard.
He had been over just the once when he had been born,
But his mother lived across there but his dad just said he was bored.
They went on a trip to the other side,
It took them all of five days; no blackbirds came over to peck at them, so the other side they did reach,
And then they sucked into a very juicy ripened peach.
Mother came and they touched antennae joyful to the last
Talked about the future, but never about the past.
Dad just lay there in the sun, still bored with wife and all his sons.
But then a thrush came down and picked a slug, then a few more other bugs
So all the snails went indoors and never saw each other,
As the shell would only take the one, others would be smothered.
Out they popped a few days late, onto a piece of garden slate
Then sonny went home via the garden gate, with a big smile as he made dad laugh.
The thrush had eaten a slug or two his dad laughed and said it might have been you,
It made the family laugh all day,
And then off they slithered on their way, back across the yard

Cute!
I like the way you put yourself in the position of a caterpillar here, and that you make them talk so we can understand it all better. I like this. A different perspective.
Have a nice day.

Re: Back Across the Yard
I liked this one Fred, I can see the humour of a bored snail!
Great reading, this is the sort of topic I would write about too, being that I love nature so much.
