For me the best in life was found at sea,
Out on the open ocean, wide and blue,
Where stretches the distant horizon true.
Three hundred and sixty degrees I see.

I’ve seen the ground that is the ocean floor,
And I have sailed beneath the arctic ice.
An engineer of both virtue and vice,
I’ve seen what is most precious. As before,

The best of life is the smile of a child
That looks up to you with great affection
And makes you smile, looking for attention,
And playing at such games as smiles-gone-wild.

I would spend half my life at sea again
For the smiles it was my joy to defend.

So different from my dad, who was a sailor during the WWII. He rounded the world 7 times, saw so many things and cultures, but says today he has no love of the sea. Myself . . . I love the smell of salt air and the feel of that breeze you never feel upon dry ground:-)

Love the sub, Bev. I know a lot of sailors like your dad. Too much of a good thing can spoil it for life. Me, I was born on the Chesapeake Bay, swimming by three and in scuba on the Florida Keys at six, and the rest is history. I shall dream of the sea and return to her as often as I am able.
