Wonderful MR P, sounds like a great deal of fun to be had with this one!
you made me laugh with the memory of mittens on a thread ha ha

I'm loving this prompt Pete....but I can't remember when I was five

"Come on, getcha coat on!" my mother shouts at me,
"Hurry up, we'll miss the bus- It's nearly half past three!!"
With one arm in me sleeve, the other waves about my head
"I can't.." I yell, "My hand is stuck!" ( in some god forsaken thread)
My mother will insist that when its cold, "You wear your gloves!"
And stitches them to the l o n g e s t piece of ribbon, instead of at ya cuffs.
Then its.."Have you been to the toilet?" just before we leave the door,
"Yes mum." and "Did you really wash ya hands?" and "Are you sure?"
Yep. She's always got that tissue to pinch your nose soooo clean
But the worst bits when she licks her thumb, rubs ya cheek- thats when I SCREAM!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That yucky feel of spittle on your cheek that dries all stiff
With that lingering smell of cigarette and coffee when I sniff.
Now,of course I need t'find me shoe, my favorite one's to wear
Quite often one's on the missing list, that makes mum want to swear.
My best shoes-thaey have laces!..."I wanna do it on my own"
Suddenly mum has a fit ,and now a paddy she has thrown!
It's hard being a five year old, so many things to try
And looking after parents when their tantrums make 'em cry
So when you yell at us.."STOP. Slow Down!" and "Please don't run too fast!"
WHY do you pull ya hair out when WE DO the things you ask??

Fidgety Legs


Mum says
Sit down nicely
Be good
And eat your tea
But a funny thing
Keeps happening
I get all fidgety

Mum says
Be a good boy
And listen carefully
But I say
Sorry mum I can’t
I’m feel all fidgety

Mum says
Time for bed now
Go upstairs
And brush
Your teeth
But I’m enjoying
Watching telly
I can’t be bothered
This is neat!

Mum says
Don’t be naughty
Or I will get a smack
But I’m not tired mummy
Do as your told
No talking back!

So I am in my bed now
My teddy by my side
My knees are bent
Hey a mountain!
I can run my
Car alongside!

Mum says
Go to sleep now
But I’m not tired, see
My legs are
On the move again
I’m awfully
Fidgety!

Five Years Old!

I finally reached
The age of five!
How exciting it is
To get a surprise!
Mom's got a cake
She really baked
With five candles on.
What a moment so fond!
Kids are singing
Happy Birthday to me.
May I lick the icing, please?
Presents to be unwrapped.
Everyone sits down, what a laugh!
Now it's time to go outside and
Play some games of
Run and hide!
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, - Here I come!
Watch out cause I caught you!
Now your the one!
What a day Mom surely planned as
I lay in bed and fold my hands.
Thank you God for giving me
A special birthday, turning five, wow wee!

I would like to have a party, when I'm old and 5
one to show all my friends, how long I've been alive
I sit upon the hard wood chair, swinging back my legs,
''Susan, stop it'' mummy yells, ''or you can go to bed!''

''Mummy, when I'm five, can I have a special day ?
I'll help you cook the fairy bread, promise I won't play.
I'll mix the jellies carefully, not to make a mess,
I'll be so real real good, I'll try not be a pest !''

Mummy wasn't listening, her T.V show was on
all the words I said to her, through her ears they've gone !
I so would like a party, like all my other friends
play lots of games, have dress up time giggle and pretend.

Staring out the window, I see all sorts of things
Scamp, my puppy playing, chewing mummys mat to strings,
''all I wants a party'' as I cuddle up to Scamp,
hiding in the dog house, my tears make him damp.

''OHhhh Mummy, mummy, you tricked me'' I said inside my head,
''We're having a special birthday, I'm five, I'm five,'' I said,
skipping around and around, my hair gets in my eyes,
''Susan, sit down, Bernard tell her'' mummy sighs.

Fairy bread and jellies all layed out for tea,
cut up little sausages and little cubes of cheese
AND placed right in the middle of this special birthday spread
was the BIGGEST EVER birthday cake, ''Your Five'' the words did said !

I'm getting all excited, seeing friends I know arrive,
why did no one tell me, just HOW SPECIAL is being five,
presents on the table, lots, some big some small
OHhhh I'm so excited, can't wait to open them all.

I'm special, I'm special, I sit and swing my legs
but suddenly my specialness turns to dread instead
''Susan, where are you ? Your making me so cross''
I fell asleep in the dog house, now mummy thinks I'm lost !

Mummys in the garden, shouting everywhere
looking for the me whose lost, but I'm not anywhere !
Scamp licks my hand, he knows I'm scared,
Mummy's really mad, he has been in trouble too, when he was ''just a lad''

''Susan, where have you been ?'' as mummy sees us both
''everyone's looked everywhere, no tea for you just bed.''
''Mummy when I'm five, can I have a special day ?
with birthday cake and fairy bread and friends around to play?''

My mummy didn't hear me, just sent me off to bed
Guess I'll have my party with my friends, inside my head,
When I'm a mummy tall and strong, with a little tiny me
We'll have BIRTHDAY PARTYS, everyday for tea !!
