1st November Prompt Guy Fawkes
Guy Fawkes
The first November Prompt is based around an old English tradition involving Bonfires, Fireworks, and a stuffed image of Guy Fawkes.
This may involve some research on your part, but is well worth the effort
Happy Writing everyone
November the Fifth
It all started with a theory
Should they do it or not
Put a rocket up the King
Well they all started to plot
Ten men started conspiring
To get rig of the King
In November Fifth 1605
What mayhem would it bring
See James the First of England
The Catholics he did hate
And waned to kick out all the priests
After saying he was their mate
So the state opening of Parliament
November the 5th was the plan
Guy Fawkes and his mates
Decided to kill the man
So they piled lots of gunpowder
But things became quite fraught
As there was a big risk
That they really could get caught
November the 5th arrived
But the king he had some doubt
And had the building searched
And Guy Fawfes was found out
So every year in November
We have Fireworks and a Guy
To commemorate the fact
Guy Fawfes gave it a try

Penny for the guy
Walking down the road
When out jumps this little boy
“Penny for the guy mista”
He was defiantly out to annoy
He pointed to a crumpled mess
With a sign around It’s neck
It didn’t even look human
In fact it looked a wreck
“It’s based on my head teacher”
The boy then said to me
It was an insult to the poor bloke
Based on what I could see
He stood there with his hand out
Expecting me to pay
I said “best that you try harder
In the mean time go away”
He looked quite disappointed
A tear came to his eye
But it pays to make more effort
To expect a penny for the guy

Re: 1st November Prompt Guy Fawkes
Bonfire Night
People all huddled around a big fire
In the cold, in the dark, in a field
Lots of Oooh’s, lots of Ahhh’s
As they look to the stars
Lots of frozen, pink fingers concealed.
Deep within pockets, or warm woolly mittens
Bobble hats clamped tight on their head
Well, when all’s said and done,
If this is called fun
I would rather be tucked up in bed!
Silly, daft people, in a field, in the dark
Watching a firework display
Spending their ‘dosh’
On a whole load of ‘tosh’
As it goes up in smoke in one day!
All animals suffer at this time of year
They’re not allowed out for a pee
They shiver and shake
Like a mini earthquake
Because of the noise, don’t you see?
As you can see, I don’t mince my words
But each to their own, I suppose
Well, you’ll never see me
Setting light to a tree
Or risk getting frostbitten toes!
This bonfire night, please be careful
Keep you’re animals safe for the night
Keep your hand in your pocket
And not a dud rocket
And keep all your children in sight!

Re: 1st November Prompt Guy Fawkes
The Plot To Kill A King
It’s funny we remember
The Fifth of November
For a man called Guy Fawkes
Who planned to kill a King.
But life back then in 1605
Was different then…!
Religion was the key to life
For the country you see
Whoever was King who sat
On the throne ruled the country
And told his subjects what to pray
Between Catholic’s and Protestants
It was that deemed for thee to pray
With the King being Protestant
The Catholic’s had to hide away
So five bearded man did but meet for a pint
In the ‘Duck and Drake’ Inn off the Strand.
They did but plot to blow a House, with King
To Kingdom come, that’s all they wanted to do
But has fifth of November got closer
A betrayal lay within a letter sent anonymously
To the Kings men who thought its not a hoax
This sealed the fate of old Guy Fawkes.
Who was found astride a barrel
Of the gunpowder he was Guarding.
So for us that we remember the Fifth of November
Is the big bangs of the fireworks and a bonfire
With a Guy who was ’Un-Fawkes-c-ness’
To get caught………!

Re: 1st-november-prompt-guy-fawkes
Well nice reading from both the of you Pete and Jinetty. You know like the 5th November Jinetty?. It is a dangerous night if you don't handle fireworks and control your bonfire right.
The poor pets being mainly dogs don't like the noise, but our Garfield the cat he don't mind for awhile.
Keep all pets safe and sound, and your children let them enjoy the spectacle so keep em damned safe......

Good writing Rich..as for me, I hate fireworks since I was a kiddling...The jumping jacks made me terrified as they went whooshing and cracking around my feet!! Sparklers horrify me....no I definately put them on my 'most hated' list among spiders and any other unmentionables!!

Re: 1st November Prompt Guy Fawkes
Very informative work my UK friends! I guess this holiday is something you'd have needed to grow up with to understand the complexity:-) People do like to make noise it seems . . .
Me, I LOVE a good raging bonfire! Matter of fact, poppy will have one for us tonight if the rain doesn't put a damper on it:-)
Jin, our dogs feel the same way about our holiday, July 4Th. And every year, some folks get hurt putting off fireworks, but they continue on. I like to remember the event more than how it has come to be celebrated.
Good writing!
