Will Read for Bread

Will Read for Bread Empty Will Read for Bread

We’d better learn to read and to do our own writing,
That way we know it says what we meant it to say,
Whatever it might be, once was, or may become if
And when we use our imagination and make it pay.

The ads say reading is fundamental to proper learning.
I assume it’s so, as one may read and never write,
But the opposite is quite impossible, it would seem
One cannot write and not read the words there written.

See Dick, Jane and Spot, I see them in my memory,
And all the books of stories and novels of adventures
Treasure Island, Moby Dick, Ten-Thousand Leagues
Beneath the Sea
, these filled my dreams with treasures.

Oh, my God, I can’t imagine not knowing how to read,
When the joy of writing is as the preparation of bread.
