7-13 DIET: That Four Letter Word

Are you struggling with weighty issues like, "Why do worms tunnel underground?", or, "When will people stop looking for Elvis?", or, "When you mate a Bullday and a Shitzu, what would you call it?" I'd hope to think not, though we poets do think rather differently! Well, I have an idea . . .

DIET

Yup, that age old institution of weights and balances most of us will ponder at some point in our lives. Can you share with us your philosophy about dieting? Whether it be to lose weight or just plain get healthier, diet is a four letter word that encompasses many things. Poem it!

7-13 DIET: That Four Letter Word Images32

FAT! Oh wow, it's come upon me again,
the extra poundage, the waistband strain!
I sit idly trying not to complain
but the fridge whispers and I can't abstain.

It never beckons with bottles of Perrier
or cucumbers seasoned in fancy purees,
but instead, heavy calories pre-sauteed
with a side of 'lite' souffle.

Chocolate ANYTHING brings an instant smile,
and for fudgy cake I'd walk a mile
and sit glutinous in a semi-dark pile -
forgetting my oath for awhile.

I freely admit it: I'm a foodie supreme
and except it with no slighting of my esteem.
It might mean 'slimness' is a pipe dream;
I'll ponder awhile . . . with sugarless ice cream!

Peas are Bread

I went onto the internet
And found all sorts of things
Door alarms and stickers
And some electric thing that stings

There are pills and potions
And stuff I don’t understand
Lots of clubs and groups
And even a gastric band

They tell us o so many things
We do everything that is said
But that F Plan book is confusing
When they say that Peas are Bread

It really is a struggle
Every moment I’m awake
Then just when I think I’m winning
Someone comes round with a cake

Don’t think that I will bother
I’ll stay indoors where its quiet
Then they wont see I’ve gone up a size
And I wont need to diet

Endless amounts of
Diet Plans.
Starting over & over again.
An endless effort of
Trying to win
Then end up back to the
Beginning again!
Exercise & diet
Are not my friends.
But a neccessity
That never ends...
From Mega Shakes to
Mega Fast,
Do they really work
Or is it an advertising mask?
I know one thing is for sure
Portion control
Is a common rule!

Walking to the cake shop
coz walking keeps you slim
only problem is
I can't buy a bloomin thing

Sometimes makes me wonder
if I walked from there to home
would it really matter
if I had a fresh cream scone

I dribble at the window
as I view fresh cream merangue
then all the guilt hits so hard
as it blows weight watchers plan

Fresh cream cakes my weakness
guess I'll never learn
to only have one a week,
I need to be more firm

The inches won't disolve
they will only multiply
so I need to turn away, not look
at the awesome cake display !!!

Such language I hear at the moment
That offends both my ears and my mind
And it isn't just coming from youngsters
The elders are much worse I find!

How they justify to have any reason
To blurt out THAT four letter word
That effects on so many, it's treason
Must we all follow suit like the herd?

I once got sucked in by it's meaning
Practised it in a sacred sabbat
But the only thing shrinking was willpower
Not the inches nor weight on this (D i e t)

No, I don't like this word- or it's feeling
I can't stick the riles of the game
Nope, stuff me with steak-or anything baked
Cos' I'd rather just roll in my shame.

Dear God, Save Me!

This note I write is urgent
This request, an open plea
Dear God, will you please, I beg you
Please save myself from ME!

This week will not be easy
This week will torture me
For I’m on the Cambridge diet
And I want the food I see!

I’ve got my breakfast porridge
And my shakes to get me by
I’ve even got my wee snack bars
Different flavours I will try

I’ve got my bottled water
My milk is totally skim
I’ve joined the gym for exercise
So hopefully, I’ll slim

Dear God, I need your guidance
To help me through my plight
Give me the bestest gift of all
The willpower to win this fight!

Amen….

If I gave up bread and biscuits
And butter, milk and cheese
Oh-sure, I'd loose a few pounds
But what foods would ever please?

If I gave up drink and chocolate
And confectionery treats
What would I buy out shopping?
What's left for me to eat?

If I leave out lamb and roasties
And stuffing with yorkshire puds
I'm left with a plate o'broccoli
Now, that can't be right nor good.

Pasta, rice and potato
Are off the list as well
Tuna and cucumber salad
Washed down with water (Oh swell!)

There's no nourishment in salad
And I don't like veg or fruit
I'm having so much trouble
Making a list of foods to suit!

.....

At the start of every week
With good intentions at the ready
The first few hours of the day
Go well, I seem to keep quite steady

But soon i find that dreadful fridge
And for all the best laid plans
Are lost in nano-seconds
I am no longer counting grams!

The hunger pains were stronger
Mr Willpower..up and went,
And so I start tomorrow
With another day of lent!

You see,I am not serious
For as i write these silly ditties
I tap with coffee in my hand
Whilst munching chocolate bickies!
