I looked into my mirror this morning
And saw an old, fat-faced man staring back.
In his eyes, I saw a reflected face
Look out at me to watch me looking in.
Where is he? Who is he? Why is he here?

This man in the mirror resembles me,
But I don’t know him, so does he know me?
I wonder. I close my eyes and find me
At six, playing catch with me at nineteen,
Thirty-five (I thought I would never make).

So, I’m, fifty-nine (just) and taking stock,
And it was a dreadful shock this morning.
Immediately, I vowed, NO MORE SWEETS,
Join a gym with a pool where I can swim,
When my lip cancer surgeries have healed.

I’ll try to reinvent myself again
As I have done before, but it’s harder now,
Not impossible. Just too difficult?
Why should a man spend such time on himself?
I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror.

A kind hearted genius is reaching to you to continue this marvellous journey you started..

Thank you, Lucie, so very much. You are such a dear and so very kind. You have my pledge that I will continue my journey so long as God gives me breath enough to do so. Poetry is one of the bigger joys of my life, outside my family of course. And one of my fondest fantasies involves me one becoming a bona fide, dyed-in-the-wool Poet. Thanks for your vote of confidence.
