Dreaming in Seven Couplets
Dreams reveal our inmost desires and fears;
They morph with us as we change through the years.
The three score and ten, more or less, we get,
Enough time for us to fiddle and fret,
And time enough, it seems, for our dreaming,
Dreaming dreams of Hope and Love and seeming
To view the world with a changed point of view,
But some change is for ill and that's too true.
Ah, and nightmares, please don’t get us started.
Ours are bad and not for the faint-hearted,
But we take them in stride and seldom show
The visage behind the mask. Who can know
The quiet anxiety we live with?
Dreams are as much a part of us as breath.

Hello. I was trying to remain upbeat and such – sad, ain’t it? Oh, well, perhaps I'll have better luck with my next poetic effort. Thanks for reading. Michael

Well I liked it. Tis' a difficult subject to explain 'Dream' so as to put it into words, well done.
Look forward to the next..

Thank you, so much. I may next try to write something of hummingbirds, as I have spent the day outside writing and watching dozens of the hummers flitting about from one blossom to another along our Rose of Sharon hedgerow. Thanks again. Michael

PeeWee, thank you so much, sir. Forgive my tardy reply, but I've been away on holiday to my hometown of Crisfield, Maryland. I'm back now and ready to begin writing some (I hope) meaningful verse. Take care, and thanks again. Mike

I like your rendering of thoughts spilling out of your dreams. Never be afraid, or feel the need to excuse your emotion in this forum . . . poetry is about many things; getting through your days and nights is one of them.
GOOD writing Michael. Always a pleasure to read your musings

Re: Dreaming in Seven Couplets
Thank you, Looby, and Bev.
As with PeeWee earlier, I apologize for my tardy reply. Fact is, as with a great many of us these days, life has gotten very complicated for me and mine, but as the old saying goes, "This too shall pass." A modern tag to that might be, "... though less noticeably with proper medications."
Well, I'm off to my first cup of coffee. Thanks again to you both for your kind comments. I'm working on a new piece. If it turns out as well as I hope, I'll be sure to post it right away. Thank you, both, yet again.

Re: Dreaming in Seven Couplets
Lucie,
I hope you are well and happy. Thank you for your gentle reminder. To be honest it had slipped my mind entirely. I am nearing 59, but sometimes I feel like a dottering old man. Ah, well, at least the hummingbirds keep me smiling. I will begin to compose a poem or two to honor the Little Hummers. Again, thanks for the reminder.

Re: Dreaming in Seven Couplets
Dreams Mike, somewhere where we can go and hope will come true. Fantasies of our desires of the good things in life. We can go to any corner of our mind and live a life of eternal bliss or go deep underground to what we fear within ourselves. Whatever we dream we awake to the realities of life, will our dreams come true? Who knows
A very good poem to read well done.
