Old Lady
Old Lady
Old Lady you sleep
This night away on
This winters night.
A cold wind doth blow
To chill your frail body
so thin, so small.
You sit huddled inside
Your blanket so small.
In the corner up against
The gate by the wall.
The station gates are
Securely shut and locked.
You find comfort huddled
There in corner catching
The warm air which blows
from within the station deep.
I see your life inside your
Plastic bags, your last
Possessions kept in there.
What happened to you
we do not know your
luck run out a long time ago.
So take this mug of tea
from me to warm your
chilling bones. You speak
no words but I do but see
within your eyes you do
but thank me.
Oh lady where are you now
no longer do I see you at
this station gate.
Have you gone to another place,
a place much warmer then this,
where you will be at peace.
Old lady I did but see your
Pain and misery so I hope
You find your way and be
Contented and at peace
Some day where pain and
misery will leave you free.

Re: Old Lady
we once missed all our connections when we lived in germany and we were on the german dutch border. We came into the station and the station master said because of the fcat that the ship you were on collided with another and you were late no more trains until tomorrow.
we stood there he undid the waiting room and then ten mins later he and his wife marched in with sandwiches and hot chocolate for both me and my wife and then in the morning after a horrible night of trying to sleep full breakfast on them and more hot chocoalte great time the late 70s

Re: Old Lady
Thanks you guys this poor little lady just failed to around one day I just wonder where she went?
Old Lady
Oh my, this brings back sad memories of workking in New York City. Riding the subways and taking the bus. Homeless people everywhere! Freezing cold temperatures. I went up to a very young girl huddled up at the platform going up the stairs to my bus and I went to touch her. Well a policeman was watching me and grabbed me by my collar and pulled me away. He said'"Don't ever go up to someone like her again"! I just wanted to help her. But, he said most likely she was on crack and was dangerous. Who knows...but my heart went out to her and all those so misfortunate.
Great poem with lots of meaning and feeling. You are so full of compassion!
Hugs,
Cheryl

Re: Old Lady
Thanks for the comment Cheryl, but the policeman is right you know you have to be careful and protect yourself in case they're are suffering from something. Its not wrong to feel sorry for those who have fallen on hard times 90 per cent would rather live a normal life. Saying that when we travel on the subways and buses we don't know who's standing or sitting next to us. Once sneeze and we could have the flu, so you be careful now....
