A Motormans Tale
Motorman's Tale
I turn the Controller,
A master it's called.
'Deadman' held down,
By a hand that holds it firm.
The train it moves slowly in control,
by a Motorman, who has control.
Along the rails, to station it be.
How pleased the Commuter on
Platform they be!!!.But alas!
It's not to be, for they are Angry.
A train ahead, oh be it not did
not run, because it was stopped.
Off we go to tunnel,
So round of which I do so,
because I'm so proud.
From the light to the gloom,
into this Tube I go.
In the distance lights appear.
Could be a station it would appear.
Thundering into station I go,
while passengers astound me oh so well!!
One mans wristwatch it looks to me,
to be not working, oh deary me!!
Tap, tap upon the watch glass,
having given me a nasty glance.
When stopped in station more taps I hear.
But this time it seems to be
upon my Cab window.
The man does declare
"Your late, your late"
A look upon the clock on the wall,
does show my train is not that slow.
"On time I’ll be" I do reply
Inside my cab I await with glee.
A ding Is heard, a bell is rung.
For this will be a the signal for me,
to leave the station you'll see!!.
Oh passenger please I must inform thee.
That this train is leaving without thee!!
I turn the Controller,
A master it's called.

Re: A Motormans Tale
Thanks everyone,
This incident happened to me many years ago when I was a Motorman (Driver). The passenger was so intense in pointing out that my train was late. That he didn't realize that the train was being boarded. But on the Head-wall (Tunnel wall) of Wood Green station was a train time interval. It indicated that the last train ahead had left 10 mins earlier.
But my train was on time according to the timetable. My Guard shut the doors and gave me the starting bell and off I went, I couldn't stop laughing till I got to Uxbridge......lol
The train in the picture was one that was allocated to the Piccadilly Line and for which I drove on many occasions. The problem with the cab of these trains was the draughts....they came in from everywhere including places I wouldn't mention. From that I got my cold shoulder which gives me pain in my left arm.
Peter you right the same type of stock was familiar on the Bakerloo Line, part of it which now been renamed to the Jubilee Line after our Sovereign Jubilee celebrations.
