Like the start of a race, you were there- at my pace,
encouraging me to continue.
By holding my hand, and my heart with your smile,
I might not have won- but I had YOU.

When I went it alone - I had only to phone,
and you'd be there to comfort my thoughts.
As we all need a friend, from beginning to end,
and its hard to find true ones of sorts.

We'd laugh you and I, and on days - a good cry
But it made all the memories hold fast,
I can honestly say, I'd repeat any day,
just to treasure the moments that pass

I shall miss you each day, but will tackle what may,
for you taught me to be all I can,
I WILL pass through the ribbon, of life I am given
and win medals of pride for you- Gran xx
