A Bit about Me

I am Teresa Jane. I am a tobacco farmers' daughter and the baby between three girls. I was born on groundhogs' day, February 02, in the good year 1961. I grew up in a small fishing village named Core Point on the Pamlico River and across from Bath, the oldest township in North Carolina where Edward Teach (Black Beard) once resided. The Pamlico Sound is visible from her shores, being it is only a few miles down the river.

After graduating from Aurora High school in Aurora, North Carolina, (Aurora was once the potato capital of the world) I served in the Navy. I was an Aerographer's Mate. I did the weather. While stationed in Illinois, Sicily, Bermuda and California, I traveled throughout Europe and the United States.

I returned home and worked in a furniture factory, a yarn factory, a phosphate mine, a box shop, a printing company, a welding company and pharmaceutical company. At one time, I was the only woman working in a surface mines' field operations in the state of North Carolina. I worked with only men.

I am now married to a West Virginian named Dow. I now have two daughters and three grandsons. Since I have been with Dow, we have lived in Charlotte, Cummings Georgia and now in Zanesville Ohio. As you can see, I love history. Loving history has given me the appreciation for art, politics, religion, nature and mankind. I love to travel and yard sales. I still love the beach and I return home at least once a year. My baby is a dog named Tuesday. A special breed of Mutt. Spoiled to a tee. She has trained us well.

As for my poetry, I have been writing my poems for three decades. I have always considered myself a doodler, sharing only with my family and a few chosen friends. It is because of these fine people, I have been encouraged to do more with my poetry. This is one attempt to do so.
