Gentle Help Empty Gentle Help

Post  Sue McDonald Tue Mar 22 2011, 21:43

Cottage being re-roofed
stopping all the leaks,
items being sorted
trying to make life more smooth.

Gutters that were rusty
now have life and shine,
windows clean and polished,
seeing lives good times.

Veranda being replaced
to dress the cottage cute,
when all has been finished,
we'll stand back and say,''you beaut!''

Inside some things have moved
including roaring fire,
placed in good position
to keep him warm and dryer.

Sometimes things feel muddled,
need to sort thoughts out
want them sorted like the cottage,
though inside his mind he shouts.

Not coping well with change yet
that will surely come, too much going on,
we have to do things day by day
take it slow, not let him fret....

It's fine to help someone in need
dementia's sadly strange,
it's not only the person you help who forgets,
it's the one who is helping with change!

We need to pace it gently,
keep that person involved
after all it's their lives we're helping,
they need to feel they are in charge.
