Wasted Minutes

Like everyone,
I have a limited number of minutes allotted to my use.
Though some don’t seem to mind it much,
I count those I waste dearly.
In a class somewhere a long time ago,
I learned to ask myself a question,
“What is the best use of my time, right now?”
I seldom ask.

To avoid condescension delivered with patronizing tones,
A ploy of duplicitous-ness,
We keep our own council, so to speak, and listen
For what may seem most time-efficient and cost-effective,
The antithesis of our human nature,
That would waste our minutes, as if sowing oats on the sea.
