Philosophical Hesitations

Worrying how a yet-to-come event will play out,
We hesitate at deciding a course of action.
Hesitation grows to waiting, and the years fly by
With scarcely a notice given to love or passion.

Missing the pleasures of a mannered society,
We carry guns now, concealed and ready for firing
In our self-defense, or in hot or cold-blooded murder.
How like the Old West, I think, What will the future bring?

Today is as tomorrow. Throughout the span of time,
Mankind’s existence is scarcely more than a small speck,
A dot in a boundless line, a pebble in a stream
Where the endless rushing waters show us no respect.

Yet we will wait and worry over our projections
And trade our possibilities for hesitations.
