Oh....! How Quite
Oh...! How Quiet
Oh...! How quiet,
I hear no sound, as
I stand and listen,
nothing is around.
What bliss is this?
a sound so silent
It hard to believe
how quiet it can be.
So early is the time
To hear no sound
As I stand and look
around. For this is
early morn, on the
Underground.
No passengers,
No trains and
No PA's to break
The silence which
Lays all around.
But has I stand and
Listen, alas strange
sounds now reach
my ears. Sounds of the
underground cooling down.
Shiny rails are heard
To click as they make
expansions so slick.
Faint humming noise
from vent fans disturb
the peace of this station
so deep underground.
A feeling of eeriness,
Makes a shiver creep up and
down my spine. Has the memory
of the ghosts of thousands
are felt walking around on
platforms, now empty and free.
The lights are bright
The platforms are clean
and sprite has I watch
the Mice’s play about.
One stops and looks at me,
Sniffs the air, then scurries
away.
A warm breeze from tunnels
So hot after a day of Trains,
which have been running about.
Mixed with the cooling air
from cooling fans does lightly
touch my wiry face.
Oh...! How quiet
Can Arsenal station be?
at 3am surprisingly,
cos you see that's where
I am upon this night of
silent reprieve.
