My Aunt Bett

I have an Aunt in Wales
not seen her for a while
beautiful and lady like
her dress sence full of style

She used to love her horses
a daily ride she'd take
return them to the stables
at ''High Lanterns'' near the lake

''High Lanterns'' was the country house
where my Aunty made her home
I loved it there, the feeling warm
I was allowed to play and roam

My memory, if it serves me well
was thick stone walls painted white
darkened beams in ceiling
window sills where you could hide

The windows were quaint and querky
I think tudor is the term thats correct
they had the glass that had dimples
to me my Aunts house was the best

I remember the scent of the leather
a scent that still calms my mind
as when I felt sad scared or lonely
she would sit with me on her leather settee

Aunt Bett made me feel safe and welcome
special and truely loved
nothing seemed to much for her
she was an Aunt sent from heaven above

In the year of seventy nine
a Godmother my Aunt did become
to my daughter before she turned three
My darling Aunt, only choice that it be

To Australia our family did fly, in 1981
sad goodbyes at the airport were said
as my Aunt, who I love as a mum
came to wish us goodluck in the sun

We have spoken a few times on the phone
every letter thats sent I have kept
she's an Aunt every child should be blessed with
so proud that her hearts in our home

Its in there coz thats where I keep it
with a photo thats placed on the wall
keeps the memories warm in our hearts
like the warmth and love shown in her home

I could write so much more of my Aunt
who I love with all of my heart
Theres one thing that I truely wish......
that we weren't thousands of miles apart.....
