3/18 Nick-names

Or why, for others, names were sought?

Tis funny how we come to know
Of others ways that outward show
And so through looks and persona born
Is where a nickname can be drawn.
For instance when I was just a tot
"niggernose" was often called alot
And as I grew and went to school
"Daydreamer" became my name by rule.
Then for a teenager, I had
"Fat arse" endeared to me, by dad
Many names have come my way
And am known as"Looby" to this day.
However names have come to you
Just means you're thought of, don't be blue!

My Moniker
Far and away in days past
I had a sister to call me a name -
that name that was silly to me at least,
but she'd croon, "Bevie!"
- to her it was a game.
I'd fist both hips and scowl and scream,
"I'm not 'Bevie', I'm BevAnn and have always been!" but it never ceased:
like a spoon-clanged pan, a high-pitched-cat scratched-glass of a voice
blaring, "BEVIE, supper's on. Come get washed up!"
And I had to go,
it was mother's cablegram sent through my elder sis who
went headlong
my given name to reinvent . . ..

The Name of Nick
There was a time, Sometime ago
When a Nick gave me a Name
For why this Nick did give me a Name
He doesn’t all but know, I am telling you
I for one did not quite know, as a matter of fact.
So I did but think what could be right
That my Name became a Nick alright..!

Hello Bev not heard from you in a while I hope you but have your lovely smile. For I have missed your encouraging comments upon my name for it so gives me the flame to burn my linguistic mind. Back am I from journey on foreign fields that now inspire my writing mind to put pen to paper or fingers to keys. Keep smile Bev and one day I might, but speak a poem if only I knew how to record upon this site...?

Little WooWoo
Nicknames seems to come in rhyme.
I'll tell you my daughter's,
But no, not mine.
At the age of two
She became a little WooWoo!
From the stories of Dr. Seus,
She reminded us of little Cindy Lu.
WooWoo was so cute
With her binky and dolls to suit.
She would toddle around the house
Holding Gretel, a tiny mouse.
Out of her lips came the word "mousie"
As she held her until she was drowsy.
Little WooWoo would fall asleep and
Cuddle up so very sweet.

Ah thanks Cheryl, but remember you've got Bev, JinettyX, Lucie and Pee Wee who give just as much if not more. This site is a great way to find good writers with a good sense of humour, who also express their feelings when they want to get something inside their heads onto paper(or onto this site). The thing is we all live in different parts of the world and have different life styles but we all have something in common, Writing and that's what brings us together. Me I am all for meeting people on this site face to face (I have with only met one at the moment) but we may never meet but I will have known you and others through their writings so keep em coming I wait for the next one........xxxxx RichieO
