Were I a man who dreamed,
a man who dreams of love,
digressing toward depression,
dreams do come, or so I’ve heard.

Were I a man who dreamed
of riches beyond the poet’s pen,
of words both pruned and preened,

a man who dreams of love
as if it were an old comforting friend,
good sex when push comes to shove.

Digressing toward depression,
his visage bleak as a lost weekend,
at a glance, a troubled disposition.

Dreams do come, or so I’ve heard,
but more doors are closed than opened.
No complaint. I sing like a caged bird.
