My One-Thousandth Poetic Effort

What shall I write for my one-thousandth poetic effort?
Should I write of themes and images as I may employ?
I could write of life, love and happiness, three in rapport.

I might write of the meaning of life as some sweet dessert,
Or I might write of how swiftly fly these days we enjoy.
What shall I write for my one-thousandth poetic effort?

Write of love? What more may be writ or spoke? By what report
May I hope to find the answers to riddles? With some joy
I could write of life, love and happiness, three in rapport.

Happiness, now there’s a topic for subjective retort.
But what about it? I ask, softly, without being coy,
“What shall I write for my one-thousandth poetic effort?”

Perhaps I should choose an open verse or a structured form,
Maybe rhyme it, or not. With just the heart of a story,
I could write of life, love and happiness, three in rapport.

Love life and work to make it better, embrace love, assert
control of happiness. I stood and yelled across to Roy,
“What shall I write for my one-thousandth poetic effort?”
“You could write of life, love, and happiness, three in rapport!”
