Do we ask a flower to describe itself?
Do we ask another of its scent,
Or do we look and sniff for ourselves?

Brocade wallpaper, dusty bookshelf
Of books with pages unbent,
Do we ask a flower to describe itself?

Reading, the most fundamental of skills
In investigating to know, content,
Or do we look and sniff for ourselves?

He took the book of poetry from the shelf,
And asked in the message he sent,
“Do we ask a flower to describe itself?”

The ancient library of old books smells
Of dust and of old ointment,
Or do we look and sniff for ourselves

With a fanfare ringing of clarion bells
To know just what he meant –
“Do we ask a flower to describe itself,
Or do we look and sniff for ourselves?”
