A Lonely Soldier

Go down

A Lonely Soldier Empty A Lonely Soldier

Post  mikeschultz Sat Jan 07 2012, 11:17

On a battlefront in a foreign land a lonely soldier calls out for help,
“Oh, dear Lord,” he cries, “won’t you help me to survive?
My buddies have all been shot and we’re lying, dying, dead,
And I don’t believe that I can live with these mem’ries in my head."

This lonely soldier remembers a Bible verse he learned in Sunday School
And how all his life he’d lived by the Golden Rule.
A tear trickles down his cheek as he tries to understand
Why all through time it’s been men fighting men.

With a lump growing in his throat, fire in his heart and a tear in each eye
“Oh, Dear Lord,” he cries, “hear my prayer before I die.
Oh, dear Lord, help my folks back home so they will understand.
And dear Lord lend my little child your Fatherly Hand.
But most of all, dear Lord, explain things to my wife,
That it was for her and You that I came to give my life.”
