My Shaira
The fluid oceans flow, ebb and flood.
The moon pulls my heart with its sad face,
Smiling its light Mona Lisa smile.
Loves lost and left to flounder and die,
Promises made under the moon’s gaze.
My heart beats to a lyric lay.
My heart’s a clipper ship flying close
On a westerly wind going home.
When my memories of the sea fade,
I know I will feel it in my blood.
Still my thoughts can often take me back
To that far seashore, so far away,
And far too long for my little girl.
Watching the moon and wondering which
Stars her father saw when he looked up,
She sings the sweetest song ever sung.

Re: My Shaira
Thank you so much for your kind words. You validate the poem for me, for I was indeed trying to express some of the love I feel for my daughter in the Philippines. I was stationed there for three years and fell in love with a charming woman. She conceived, and I got shipped out. And I've yet to be able to get back to the Philippines to see my daughter. Hence the poem, and others like it. Thank you again for reading and enjoying my poem. It means a lot to me. Mike
