Well just like that old bad penny Winter has finally crept back into our bones
So here is your chance to express your literal feelings about this chilly season.

Streaks of gossamer

Standing outside in the morning
As the sun begins to rise
Peeping through some orange clouds
Just hovering in the sky

A few faint streaks of gossamer
Cutting through the air
Left by 747s
Going who knows where

The winter air is chilly
Fingers of frost touching my face
Covering leaves and branches
Getting into every place

Silence is broken by a Robin
As his territory he stakes
It is so clear and shrill
The whistling that he makes

Then he changes his announcement
And he settles up on the wall
How can something so loud and shrill
Come from something so small?

The sun is getting brighter
Things begin to awake
I feel honoured to be a part of it
Each and every new day that breaks

Lovely poem to go with a beautiful picture Peter, very excellently written.....I look out every day and all I see is green grass, been getting a lot of rain here in South Haven, MI

Here's one for you all..... =)

Winter Snow

Looking out side, everything green and brown,
thinking if we're in December or just another day and time.
What ever happened to the winter snow,
Will it ever start to fall Christmas without snowis just like anyother day in Autumn.

As much as I dislike the snow,
for it's slippery, wet and cold.
The trees, houses, and beach,
sure does look beautiful with snow.

The lighthouse with snow and ice,
Look beautiful in the sitting sun.
There should be colored lights,
shining on the ice what a sight for the eyes.

Seeing the children laughing and playing in the snow,
snowball fights, igloos, and forts is really nothing without snow.
How can one lay down and make a snow angel,
Yes, as much as I dislike the snow
Winter isn't winter without the snow.

Thank you Dori! You know, I don't miss the snow:-) Really, I didn't much care for it when I lived in Ohio, but I have to say . . . there is something about that first falling that is so captivating. I do miss that . . ..

Wintertime Remembered

When cold was deep and snow fell brisk
the sounds rang sharp and icicles formed.
When trees were clothed in a whitewashed kiss,
one tended close to the home dwelling's warmth.

When windows froze from the inside out,
and ice-glazed milk sat out on the stoop,
when feet needed boots for that privy route,
we'd look with wonder at the wondrous view.

And then we'd hear momma call our return
and she'd feed us eggs gathered fresh that morn.
We'd gulp at milk drawn tart from her churn
and devour bread from her oven warm.

Then off we'd scamper to finish up chores
and dream dreams of buckets of snow's return,
for what else is winter, what else is it for -
but a frozen reminder of memories preserved.

Thanks Peter and Bev, I really didn't write this my figures did.....or was it my brain.....I just hope we have a LITTLE bit of snow for Christmas, and for New Years Eve and day, then it can go away for another year... lol

ICE CYCLES

Take a real good look at ice cycles when you see them,
some are long and thin but others are short and fat.
There are ice cycles all over the lighthouse that are truly beautiful,
some are like prisms when the sun shines on them.

The many colors that comes out of them are really beautiful to see,
some are very long that they touch the ground.
They sometimes make you feel like you are in a prison,
some are so cloudy that you can't see out of them
while others are transparent that you can read through them.

Winter time again.

Put away your summer clothes
Your sandals and your jellies
It’s getting colder by the day
It’s time to grab your wellies.

Time to get the thermals out
The vests and long-johns too
Woolly hats with woolly gloves
To warm you through and through.

Scarves to wind on round your neck
To keep out the wind and rain
Woollen jumpers for your back
Because winter’s here again.

Wind and rain, snow and sleet
Icicles and snowflakes
People sliding on the ice
Like skaters on frozen lakes

Children building snowmen
And having snowball fights
Schools are closing everywhere
‘Cause they’ve all got frozen pipes

You’d think that we’d be ready
Scraping ice from off the car
But typically we’re astounded
By just how ill-prepared we are.

Well hey hey! Good writing gals:-) I knew there was more pulling to be done and you all can come through! Lucie, I have to tell you - writing about snow is one of my least favorite topics, lol! So don't be dismayed . . . we don't all get inspired by ALL the prompts:-)

Thanks for the nice thoughts about my writing. It's clippy right now, because, well, maybe because I'm in a clippy mood, lol! But I survive if I can find a way to throw in the olden ways . . .. I grew up in a house where there was ice on the inside of the windows:-)
