Madison Empty Madison

Madison
I awoke to soft sounds of sleep
Coming from across the room
Quietly I tip-toe towards that sound
My heart is pounding so fast
As I approached that heavenly sound
I remember it's my new born babe
I am so proud to be a Mother to thee
Looking lovingly in complete awe
Into her cot I do but look
I hear the breathing of my sweet daughter
Hoping soon that she does but wake
So that I, can hug and kiss her sweet little face
Her hunger pains will shortly tell
It's feeding time for my little girl
I've named her Madison, but not the Square

Madison my dear you have but far
A Nanny who is so Grand
In a far away land thats over sea
Where the Mounties wear red
It's Canada you see
Her name is Sue, "How do you do"
Her influence is far and wide
From where she lives she see's
Red and White,
I remember when Joe Baker,
once played in Red and White
So now you know your 'Gooner' to have
A grand old life with a family
Who loves all so well.

Thanks Bev,
Julie, Madison's mother wrote on her FB status "I can't wait for my Madison to wake so I can feed her". The excitement in that statement and the fact that her Nanny Sue, who lives in Canada gave me the inspiration to write this poem.
Sue, was in the same year as me at my old school in Hackney. We met for the first time after 43yrs as did others from the school at a reunion we both organised. She brought her Granddaughter Meghan with her and we spent some time walking around London and having Pie n Mash from one the old shops still selling them.
