the Extra Mile
• The extra mile
He stood at the stairs and listened,
he could not hear a sound,
he walked on down and looked around,
but no sign of anyone there.
Then he heard the key in the door,
he ran as fast as he could go his heart pounding,
he made it to his room, he hoped he made it,
he heard the footsteps and the creak at stair number five,
then the door opened and in they walked,
here are some water bottle and some chips to eat,
then they walked out of that same door,
when would he see them or would he see them anymore?
He had learnt to eat the bags of chips slowly they would only come once week,
then they go off clubbing again, didn’t care about him or his feet,
he lived in danger of their wrath, he feared them beyond belief,
if only he could find a way to get some kind of relief.
He looked out of the window and saw no one even close,
he got down once again and went out onto the stairs,
a knock on the door and he ran on down, he screamed his name and he heard a sound,
people broke open the door frame and he was saved and they did smile,
someone out there needed a hug,
they had gone the extra mile.
